Never Give Up and Don't Lose Focus!

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NLT)
16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Why should we never give up?

2 Corinthians 4:15 (NLT)
15 All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.

Our spirits are being renewed every day even though our bodies are dying. Have you ever stopped to think about that statement?

What else in this world can you think of where as one thing is dying it also has something that is renewing at the same time?

It's funny how we can so easily recognize our "bodies that are dying everyday" and not even notice that our spirits are being renewed at the same time. Could that be because of our culture? And if so does it mean we are allowing our culture or this world to have a greater influence on us than we should?

Verse 15 says that all of this is "for our benefit" and then later it also says that "God will receive more and more glory" from it. Never giving up is a win win situation!! We win and God also receives the glory for it.

So never give up! No matter what you are going through. Focus on the part of you that is being renewed daily and quit focusing on the part of you that is only temporary and dying! This is for your benefit and it also brings God glory!

Now which will you choose to focus on?

  1. I'm printing this out so I can reread it throughout the day today and get this stuck in my head. Funny you should post this as my mind was stuck on worldly thoughts and how they cause so much trouble for us this morning. Very timely post...thanks!!

  2. You're welcome Chandra. I've been in that funk too lately with all the problems Emily is going through. But I'm starting to see a little more clearly now and that's what inspired this post!

    Glad it helped you.
