The Spiritual Lunchbox

Sunday at church a thought hit me like a ton of bricks!

The Lord spoke to me and said, "You're not packing your lunch"!

Now only a weird person like me would understand that at first, so let me unpack the thought for you so we can share what an awesome revelation this is.

Too many times in my life I've gone to church, listened to some of the best sermons, took notes like an eager Jesus pupil does and as soon as the service is over with everything that was learned and talked about was left to go to waste.

I'm ashamed to admit this - being a youth leader and all - but not once, not even one time, have all gone back to what was preached on Sunday and studied what the Lord was no doubt trying to get through my thick skull.

How awful is that?

So I think the Lord knew how to get my attention best. He would reveal my mistake through comparing my walk to food! (I know it's crazy but He speaks to me in weird ways.)

As soon as I heard the Lord say the words, "you're not packing your lunch", I got it! And what flowed from that simple statement ignited a new fire in me. The flames were starting to pick up!

Here's a few of the thoughts that followed that revelation...

  • You pack your lunch by taking these notes but you don't even open your lunchbox the rest of the week!

  • Unpack what you learned so you can eat!

  • It will carry you through the rest of the week.

  • Don't you DARE let this go to waste!!!

  • No wonder you just barely make it through the week from Sunday to Sunday. You aren't eating the food I gave you to keep you fed!!!

  • Don't you think I prepared this meal for a reason?

  • Do you think it's a "coincidence" I made this topic the "special of the day", when I know that's what you've been struggling with?

  • How many other people are starving because you refuse to open your lunchbox?

  • Why would you waste something that doesn't return void?

Wow!

It's so crazy how one simple revelation from the Lord can get my mind working overtime!

I really needed to hear that. And now the spiritual lunchbox is being utilized the way it was intended.

How about you?

Do you ever open your lunchbox?

  2. I can't say I'm an expert at this, but with keeping my notes and thoughts and revelations in one journal, I can go back and review. I try to do this just as regular as studying the Word. It reminds me of where I've been, and in turn I am able to help someone else through what God's been teaching me through various lessons or jsut by writing down something that was revealed to me while studying on my own.
