2 + 5 = 5,000 And Some Hardened Hearts

Something interesting caught my eye last night as I was doing my devotional.

52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.

The passage above states that the disciples didn't understand what had happened when Jesus fed the 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Their hearts were hardened because they didn't understand?

And then I thought to myself, how many times do we get upset (or harden our hearts) because something happens that we don't understand?

I could understand a little bit better if they had lost one of their loved ones or one of the disciples witnessed Jesus refusing to heal someone, but to see a huge miracle like that happen and harden your heart about it because they didn't understand it makes me curious.

And then I thought of all the things that have been happening in my life right now that have caused me to harden my heart simply because I don't understand it. And now I realize that I don't want to look back on my life and see the same thing I'm seeing in verse 52. I don't want to look back and see that I got upset about something the Lord was doing simply because I didn't understand it.

I pray that we all would just allow Christ to work the way he needs to. If we don't understand it fine, we don't understand it. But don't allow it to cause your heart to be hardened over it. Who knows, it may just be something like feeding 5,000 hungry people when we look back on it one day. I don't think you would like to look back and say your heart was hardened over something like that!

  1. Its so easy for us to harden our hearts over the dumbest things too...

I bet God just shakes his head & thinks "just wait - you'll see"

  2. I think that God must get dizzy at times shaking his head at us! Let Go and Let God... wasn't that a big slogan a few years back? Think maybe we need to take it up again... let go of what we want and let God do his thing! How much better off would we ALL be?!
