I'm Concerned About Prayer

I have increasingly grown more and more concerned about Prayer.

Why?

Because I don't think we truly realize how important it is.

Let me refresh your memory for just a minute please...

Acts 1:14

They all joined together constantly in prayer

Acts 2:42

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Romans 12:12

12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Colossians 4:2

2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Does that refresh your memory?

I think if we were to be really honest with ourselves we could say that our prayer lives could be improved.

If you think about it, prayer isn't something that gets a lot of attention in many sermons at church does it? I guess everyone assumes that the congregation already knows how important it is and that everyone "should" already be doing it. So maybe some don't feel the need to talk much about it.

But if I was the enemy and I wanted the followers of Christ to fail in their walk I think the first thing I would try to take out would be the believers means of communication with God. I would probably feel their heads with lies like "You're too tired to pray before bed. You'll be too tired to get up early in the morning and devote some time to prayer." Or some other nonsense like that.

I think I would also just get it stuck in the heads of pastors, ministers or leaders to overlook the importance of stressing prayer. Yeah as long as we pray ___ number of times in our service we are covered but let's just not devote too much time to it. Or heaven forbid we spend a whole sermon talking about it.

It's funny that one of the things we see Jesus doing most often is praying and yet we don't stress it enough!

If I was the enemy I would be concerned about prayer. But are we as Christians concerned about it as much as he is?

  1. Amen! Pray without ceasing!!

Its scary because I see younger people who when asked to pray - they have no idea how to approach it - if they dont understand it now - we need to teach them how important it is - train them NOW how to have constant communication with God! Afterall - that's what prayer is - our communication with Him... of course Satan doesnt want us talking with our Heavenly Father!

    Good post!

  2. I am not sure that as Christians we take ANYTHING in our walks as seriously as Satan does. Sad, isn't it?
