Piggy-backing off of yesterdays post about being safe I wanted to revisit this topic and share a verse I came across this morning.
12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Yesterday we talked about how it is wise to make sure all the doors and windows and any type of opening that Satan can use to get inside and rob you are locked up tight. But what do we do when we are in the room when the thief comes to rob us and we feel that we are trapped?
As you read in the scripture above God will ALWAYS give us a way out of any temptation. It doesn't matter what that temptation may be. Alcohol, Drugs, Sex, Food, Money, Popularity, whatever the temptation is God promises us that we are not trapped and held captive to any of these temptations.
But how do we find the way out?
The military and police train their soldiers when entering a room to find and locate the exits to that room as fast as they can.
Why?
So that if and when something goes wrong they know how to get out of the situation.
That's exactly what we've got to start doing as Christians! If you find yourself walking into the same temptation over and over again and falling flat on your face it's time for you to start finding the exits. In other words what are you going to do to get out?
One of the biggest things to help you as we talked about in the last post is to have an accountability partner or be involved in a small group. An accountability partner is the exit you need to help you when you are faced with any number of temptations.
But you know what? You have to be willing to walk out! In other words, you have to be willing to open up and confess things to your accountability partner or small group.
God always provides us with a way out of any type of temptation, but what good is an exit if we aren't using it?
Made me think of the story of a man who was trapped in a smoked filled room - he couldnt find the exit door & he died ... laying right by it - but he didnt know he was there....
ReplyDeleteHow many times are we trapped in the smoke & can't see when the exit door is right there behind us?
Sometimes we aren't trapped by anything more than our own selfishness... or our reluctance to let God lead... and that is especially said! When that happens it doesn't matter how many exits there are! Just so thankful to be a part of a group that would call me out on that one!
