"The Motions"

Okay, so ever since Chad preached the awesome sermon about "shifting" I can't seem to get it off of my mind. I've been questioning every act of worship that I take part in at church and testing it to see if it is genuine or just a "motion" that I sometimes go through. And you know what? I would probably give myself a 75% on the test if I'm being real honest here.

I think the biggest mistake we as Christians make is not realizing how important or significant EVERY act of worship is. Whether it be praise and worship, the sermon, communion, tithing or fellowship with one another. Every act of worship or service should not become just a "motion" that we go through.

I think it's important for us to realize that every time we meet we need to look at it as though it is the last time we are going to do so. And not only that but to get a mindset that Jesus himself is with us in that meeting/gathering. How would we act if we saw Jesus standing next to us in our worship? Would we be genuine or just simply go through the "motions" yet again?

Sometimes I don't think we realize just what all Jesus did for us. If we had a clue about every single thing that is a blessing that we don't even think about (breathing, walking, heart beating, sight, sound, touch, all the things we take for granted) our act of worship would never just become a "motion". Our reading the Bible and praying to an awesome God would never just become "motion".

As I've been thinking about all of this, God kind of placed an exclamation point at the end of all this when I stumbled across Matthew West's new song "The Motions". Funny how God introduces those exclamation points at just the right time huh?

Are you going through the "motions"? Or do you realize how important EVERY element of worship is?

What would happen if you gave everything?

(come on silent readers, lets talk about this!)

  1. That is a fantastic song - very appropriate!

I dont think we CAN ever give too much! We need to realize that to "shift" we have to ALWAYS grow, make changes, grow closer to God in ways that we never have before. I think there are areas in everyone's life that people hold back from God - oh, the day where we give it all! That's a Christian that is ON FIRE!!! I want to be better each & every day for God - so I want NOTHING in my life to be going through the motions!
