Superheros

Sometimes we fail to see the significance that we play in the lives of others. Sometimes we can't see past our own little "boxes" and we don't see all the good we do or have done for others. And because of this problem that we sometimes have I think it is safe to say that we often don't realize what an impact we play in their lives. Whether it be a positive impact or a negative one, it is hard to see what is sometimes in front of our faces.

That is why I want to make a connection between us and superheros. What am I talking about?

I'm talking about the fact that we are a lot like superheros and we don't even realize it. Think about it. No matter who your favorite hero is you are a lot like that character in more ways than you realize. And that is what I love the most about superheros. We can all relate to them in some sort of way or another.

Let me go a little deeper. Think about it like this. Have you ever wanted to make a difference in someones life so much that you did daring and noble things to do so? For instance have you taught, coached, or adopted a kid and invested your time in their life? Maybe it took sacrifice and discipline in order for you to do this but you did it anyway. How many superheros can you think of that do daring and noble things that take sacrifice and discipline to accomplish? I can think of a few.

Have you ever made a poor choice and regreted every minute of it? Asking yourself, "what in the world was I thinking?" I can think of a few superheros who have made a decision that they regreted terribly. For instance when Spider-Man took on the persona of the Black Spider-Man he became very selfish and thoughtless. And it was hard for him to give up that personality because he enjoyed it for a while. You see just because they are superheros doesn't mean that they don't have flaws. That is what I love the most about them. The creators give them superpowers and strengths but still make them as human as possible.

The one thing that superheros have most in common with us is that they still have to make choices. They all have to decide and choose what they will do next. It doesn't matter how much power they have. In the end they are all like us in the fact that they have to decide what to do next.

Do I save the world again or do I sit around and live for myself?

Do I train and practice discipline again or do I take on a new, self-fulfilling hobby?

Do I uphold the law and stand up for justice or do I ignore what is right in front of my face?

Do I shed the addictions, bad habits and negativity in my life or do I renew my mind often?

You see, every question I just asked is a question that we find we are asking ourselves. Except I want to look at it in a Christian perspective. Re-ask yourself all these questions from a Christian point of view and see what kind of superhero you are.

Do you live for yourself, instead of leading others to Christ and saving their souls?

Do you train yourself and practice discipline by reading the word of God and having an intimate prayer life?

Do you stand up for the commandments of Jesus and practice them in a way that is evident to your peers?

Are you shedding the addictions, bad habits and negativity that not only bring you down but also bring those around you down? Or are you allowing Satan, (the main villain) to rob you of your joy?

Once we make the connection that we are much like the superhero's we all admire you will begin to see that superhero's aren't just a work of fiction. Superheros are real and they are very much alive everyday.

The only thing left to ask is do you choose to be a superhero or not?
