Words Of Wisdom

Yoda from Star Wars is notoriously known for his wisdom. When young Luke was training to become a Jedi Knight he sought the knowledge and discipline that only Yoda could provide. And though those characters are a complete work of fiction they relate to us in ways that we can all understand. One of my favorite lines that Yoda says is, "do, or do not, there is no try."

I grew up with many great teachers, coaches, friends and family that all invested their wisdom and knowledge into my life. And for that I am forever grateful. Without these "Yoda's" in my life I know I wouldn't have become the man that I am or the Christian that I am striving to be.

If I had to choose one particular person to talk about that invested a lot of their time and knowledge in my life I would have to choose my Grandpa. He taught me the value of hard work and what it meant to earn things in life. He taught me what discipline was and how to value things. If I wanted to borrow $5.00 from him he would have me come over and sweep his driveway so that I earned the money and it wasn't just given to me. He taught me what Jesus could offer me and what it meant to have a saviour to call on. Because of him I want to try my best in everything I do and I want to be the person he always told me I could be.

Maybe you can think of some people in your life that invested in you and helped shape your personality. But the one person that I think we may all share in common would be the greatest investor of wisdom of them all, Jesus Christ.

Jesus taught us all the great parables that we read in the New Testament. He taught us what it meant to be a servant and how to humble ourselves. He told us that our way of thinking was wrong and said it strongly when he said that the least would be the greatest and the first would be last. Jesus made the word wisdom have meaning.

If we aren't learning from the greatest investor of wisdom then what are we really learning?

Who has made a difference in your life?

  1. You are crazy! You can always fit Star Wars into any situation can't you?
The person you made the biggest difference in my life was my grandma Jean. She had a very hard life and yet at the end of her life she would have a constant smile on her face. She loved and trusted the Lord with everything in her. Unlike you I did not have many people in my life that inspired or taught me but God put 100 people into that one woman. She was every teacher, leader, or great inspiration that I ever needed on this earth. She was my best friend for 26 glorious years. Because of her I am who I am.
I know, from the 4 years that I have known him, that you papaw is an amazing man also. I can't wait to introduce them all in heaven. Woo what a party!!!!! All your family that you loved, great friends that were like family and of course JESUS!! What more do you need! (besides some big red) yippee

  2. I was blessed to have parents who were so wise in the Bible & taught the things of Jesus in my life. I hear so many stories of people who didn't have that & I realize even more how blessed I was!

I think we are always growing in wisdom too so even now, every day, we meet & know people who are constantly teaching us & helping us grow - & God is so faithful in putting people in your life at just the right time for that reason!
