Quote Of The Week

I have a book full of quotes that I use to post my Quote Of The Week. It was a gift given to me from my wonderful wife Erica. (She always knows what to get me and she seems to know what I will get the most use out of, and I truly love her for that). I was reading through the book when I stumbled across a quote that really stood out to me. Especially with the way I've been feeling this week. It goes like this...
.
"If the stars should appear just one night
in a thousand years, how would men
believe and adore"!
.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
.
Wow! I couldn't believe it when I first read that. It rings true with so many people I know and I can't help but feel that this is how they think. Is it that faith and beliefs become so routine that we take it for granted? I know there are tons of things that are taken for granted and we sometimes regret feeling this way about certain things but would it be any different if only once a year we had the privelege of experiencing certain things? Would we hold it in a higher regard if there was only one time to do the things we love the most? Kind of makes you think about it huh?

  1. That just reminded me of a verse I read this week in Proverbs. I say that it reminded me because it is kind of the same and kind of different.
It's Proverbs 27:7 He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
It just made me think about all that I have and take for granted (material possessions, ability to worship God without persecution, etc). Someone in a third word country would probably jump for joy and be able to fully appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a small fraction of what we take for granted here in the US.
